Should I read it?

With access to all the information we have now it can be hard to discern what is the right source to listen to… there are many different people writing about similar topics so how do I know which is the right one? Article after article it can be easy to get lost in the news and information placed right at your fingertips, how do we know that what we are reading is giving us the correct information, let’s dig deeper into how to tell that what we are reading is the best choice!

Where is it from?

Starting at the very beginning we need to see where we are getting our information from. FIf you want to understand warm-ups and workouts for dancers, avoid articles by non-dancers. Reputable sources for dance will usually have an article with a publisher who can be investigated, ensuring that you as the reader can see the history of the author to clarify their credibility.


When did it get published?

Now after figuring out if the author of your article is one that you can trust, you need to figure our when the article was published. Depending on when the article was published we can identify whether or not it is truly worth using, as time goes on and things change the opinions or statistics found withing the article can be wrong and unusable.


Why did they write it?

What is the main reason that the author published their article? Was it for recognition or to get the word out about the topic? As Avoid reading articles about dance from authors who lack dance experience.ome people will write articles to be sarcastic or to try and make a joke but it can be taken seriously.


Is it in the correct context?

Context is one of the most important things in an article, if the context of the article is off then you won’t be able to get a reputable resource. Ensuring that the article you are reading is in the correct context will allow you to adequately use the information provided. An eLet's consider the ballet "The Nutcracker" as an illustration. Most people perceive the first act as a narrative and the second act as pure dance. If you take the time to look at the story you would find that the second act is actually them giving honor to Clara for helping to defeat the mouse king who was controlling their home. Context changes the story.

After looking at these different ways to discern whether an article is one that you should be reading, we can't see that within the first few sentences you can tell that the article is usable or not. While it may be hard there are many articles that aren’t truly the best to be using, they give false information and have you looking in the wrong direction. Digging deeper and doing research for yourself is one way to ensure that you are getting the right details.
