A Dancer who DOESn't Dance

What is it like to be a dancer who doesn’t really dance anymore? What happens to the girls who love dance but they decide not to go the professional route, how do they continue to follow their dreams?

One of the hardest things a dancer who truly loves dance can do is walk away. Even if a dancer quits or reaches their physical limit, they still long to return to dancing..

From my experience a dancer never truly walks away, there is always something that pulls them back to dance. It could be teaching or performing for local churches, you never quit being a dancer. Every time the music plays you are transported back to the moment when you were dancing, whether it be jazz, hip-hop, tap, or ballet. You never truly escape being a dancer, so how do you live as a dancing non-dancer?

Local studios provide classes for adult to continue their ballet training and fitness.ut what if getting into one of these classes isn’t an option, when you walk away from dance and you don’t ever get to go back? What do you do then?

Dance is such an expressive form of art that for most people even though they walked away it isn’t and won’t be the end of their dance career. Personally, I found a way to continue dancing through both teaching and local churches. It is something that helps me keep balance and stay in shape and focus. When I need to decompress I pull out all my old shoes and I dance.

It is crazy how easily the world can fade away when you are dancing, my best friend and I were talking about dance. We thought that once we walked away it would be easy to forget about it but we always go back to how much we miss dance.

Dance isn’t something that you can quit, it's not something that you can walk away from not when it is what makes you happy. Dance isn’t stagnant it is something that always pushes and pulls at you. You are always fighting to be better, to be more, to grow, and find what makes you the best dancer you can be.

When you quit dancing you don’t quit being a dancer, because dance flows through every part of who you are as a person. It isn’t ending, it doesn’t finish just because the music ends doesn’t mean that you aren’t a dancer anymore. It just means that the phase or phrase is over, and it is time to move on to the next piece and find the timing that it brings. So there is no answer to the question of what is it like to be a dancer who doesn’t dance anymore because somehow we always find our way back.
